ABOUT THE "DEEP BLUE SEA" WOODCUT PRINTS:

The DEEP BLUE SEA woodcuts were our second collaborative series as Tugboat Printshop. This series of 23 color woodcut prints were made from 2008-2010, just as the world seemed to be waking up to new realities of power structure & widespread information sharing.

The DEEP BLUE SEA has an over-arching theme of exploration and mystery, and the series developed fluidly, like a train of thought. The 'Sea' was sometimes a sea, but sometimes a swirling mass of unknowns. Sometimes it was outer space, sometimes it was the future and sometimes it was the past. The DEEP BLUE SEA woodcuts are all vaguely related to the ocean, and present exploration as a positive thing, a wonderment. Hopefully, we felt, the mysterious would always exist, and we would always feel compelled to approach the unknown from an upbeat angle.
