“THE SUN” woodcut is published from 2 hand-drawn, hand-carved woodblocks to approx. 47” x 37” Japanese paper.
“THE SUN” is the largest woodblock I’ve made to date, the maximum width I can print—it as wide as my press roller!
Limited edition prints of “THE SUN” woodcut are being printed in batches due to to complexity, scale, and dry time.
Each print is pulled directly from the original wood carvings.
Oil-based inks are custom mixed & rolled to the wood’s surface w/ hand brayers.
Ink is pressed to the paper’s surface with uniform pressure.
Each print is in some way unique!
After the 1st block is printed, paper is rolled back up to roll back out atop the newly inked key (detail) block.
Both woodblocks hold multiple split-fountain ink rolls to bring vibrant, nuanced color to the artwork.
